Somebody Spilled the Beans!!
I was wondering how long I could keep the Baby News a secret from my class. I received the answer today: about 18 weeks!
Last week, a youngster gave me a hug, patted my belly, and said, "I'm wondering when your baby is coming." I smiled, acted surprised and replied, "Do you think I've got a baby in there?" and he very matter-of-fact-ly said, "Yeah - what month is it coming?" I told him the baby is coming in August, but to keep it a surprise for the rest of the class. And to my surprise - he did!!
Today, they all learned the truth. Another student overheard some other teachers talking about Cletus (and no, I'm not really naming the baby Cletus...) and me. As she left my room (with all of the other kids working quietly), she nonchalantly said, "Oh, and Mrs. Stiers? I know about the baby you're having." I was so shocked!! The kids were all very surprised, excited, and full of questions...
"When is it coming?"
"For REAL??"
"Wouldn't it be great if you had it on your birthday?" (I can't believe they remember my birthday!!)
"Can you bring it to school?"
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Are you joking?!"
"When is your next ultrasound?"
"Are you serious?"
"What is it's name?"
"Mrs. Stiers, you're not joking with us, are you?!"
One little girl was even precious enough to say...
"I've noticed you're a little overweight lately." BAHAHAHA She claimed she's seen me eating a lot of hamburgers lately. I made sure we were all clear that I prefer bologna sandwiches. :o)
I'm dreading the "where did your baby come from?" question... anyone have any good ideas for a response??
