I'm just about 25 weeks along and there's no mistaking it - I'm pregnant! I feel pregnant, I look pregnant, and I'm pretty sure the outside world can tell I'm pregnant (rather than just whispering about weight gain). I've got some swollen ankles, aches in my back, exhausted afternoons, and am making about 10 trips to the bathroom every day. But, the #1 pregnancy symptom of the week is... Maternal Instinct!
The weekend started with tornado warnings across much of the Lexington area on Friday evening. I fell asleep on the couch after school and woke up to the TV making that annoying Emergency Alert noise. I went outside to check it out, since the news reported a wall cloud with rotation about 6 miles or so from my house. It looked nasty overhead, so I sent Ben a text to let him know about the warning since he was supposed to be heading home about that time. He replied that he was hanging out in a storm shelter bathroom on campus. As the storm got closer, the lightning and wind picked up, so I corralled the cats into the bedroom so they'd be easier to put in our closet (innermost room w/o windows) if it got bad. Keeping up with Facebook, I could tell a lot of my friends in the area were also glued to the weather. It eventually blew over and no harm was done. That night, we woke up to hail pounding the roof and windows, round after round of lightning and thunder, and tornado sirens blaring. Fun fact: down here they run the sirens for the entire duration of the warning... not just if a tornado has touched down nearby. Twice that night we woke up, turned on the TV and weather.com to see storm warnings, and were sure the cats were within reach in case we needed to head into the closet.
The reason I even batted an eye at these storm warnings
Growing up in IL, we very rarely went to the basement because of storms. I could probably count on one hand how many times a "Tornado Warning" actually worried us enough to get underground. But things are different now! I also find myself guarding myself from rowdy kids, clearing the floor of trip hazards, and driving a lot more cautiously than I did 6 months ago. I wouldn't consider myself paranoid, and I still can't imagine myself sterilizing everything before letting the baby play with it, but I have noticed that I am a lot more cognizant of my surroundings and possible dangers.
I'm pretty sure the cats know something is going on, too. They've been a lot more affectionate and cuddly lately.
25 weeks (tomorrow) marks 6 months! Wow - August is going to be here before I know it! Maybe it's time to start working on a nursery and other preparations? There's no mistaking the baby's movements any more. She can be quite active and Ben and I often get a kick out of feeling and watching her roll around and jab at me (did you catch the pun there??). She's roughly the size of an eggplant now!
I hope this message finds you all healthy and happy! Thank you to everyone who is keeping us in their thoughts and prayers!

I've heard that cats have such good hearing that they can heard the heart beat of a baby... SO... they might be able to hear baby girl in there :) They're already bonding and claiming her :) P.S.- YOU LOOK ADORABLE SWEETIE!!!!
