6 Months Old!!

On February 7, 2011, I made my very first blog post announcing my pregnancy.

On February 7, 2012, Charlotte Grace turned 6 months old!! Time is FLYING.

We took Charlotte to her 6 months well-baby checkup on Wednesday. The doctor was very pleased with her growth and overall development. She weighs 16 lbs, 13 oz (over 3.5 lbs heavier than her 4 month checkup) and measured 28 inches long - a 3 inch gain from 4 months. For those of you keeping tabs, she's in the 75th percentile for weight and above the 95th percentile for height. The doctor predicted she'll be tall like her daddy.

She had a low grade fever at the check up (100.1), so we decided to hold off on her vaccinations for another day. Ben took her back on Friday afternoon and said she did AMAZING with the shots. He said she cried for about 5 seconds and was completely fine all evening after that.

She is really enjoying eating solid foods. So far she's eaten (and enjoyed!) rice cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, avocado, pears, peas, and apples. Her favorite seems to be sweet potatoes. Next on the list of foods to try are squash and zucchini.

Charlotte LOVES to play and act silly. When she's not bouncing around like a wild child in her Baby Einstein Jumperoo, you can find her sitting on the floor talking to Laugh & Play Dog, playing with Crinkle Dog, chewing on stuff, singing and growling, rolling around trying to destroy the diaper caddy we keep in the living room, or banging on stuff with her hands and feet (rattles, her belly, the coffee table, her high chair, mommy & daddy...). She also still loves to play on her changing table and in the bathtub. Now that she's sitting up, I let her sit up in the tub for a few minutes to splash in the water, put bubbles on her head, and play "Where Are My Feet?" in the suds.

It's no secret that Charlotte is not the world's best sleeper. Everyone and their uncle has some tips or advice for how to "fix" the problem. Trust me, readers, we've tried it all. I'm not expecting her to sleep 12 hours straight and cruise through the night without eating. If I can't make it 12 hours without eating, why would I expect her to? I would love if she'd sleep soundly between feedings, though. Her issue isn't with falling asleep, it's with staying asleep. Sometimes she's up every 30 - 45 minutes for hours at a time. Other nights (like last night) she sleeps in long chunks (4 hours, feed, 5 hours!!!). I wish I could crack the code for consistency. Now that she's rolling around in her sleep, we're no longer swaddling. That transition really could have been much worse. Luckily, she seems to be getting the hang of it.

Sleep or no sleep, she's healthy, happy, sweet, and adorable! Those are the most important things. The rest will come with time. These last 6 months have FLOWN BY and Ben and I are so excited to see the changes & blessings that the next 6 months hold.
