This has been a
huge week for us. The title of the post pretty much sums it up, but this is just in case you're interested in details. Again, keep in mind that I use this blog as a baby book (more like a family book), so a lot of Charlotte's milestones and triumphs are written here.
Last Friday, I spent the morning at my friend
Joy's house with a few other moms and their kids. Charlotte promptly fell asleep in the car on the way home, and continued napping once we got home. She woke up earlier than usual though, very unhappily. When I went to get her, she felt very warm and had several spots on her face. Throughout the day, the spots kept creeping up all over her. And by Saturday morning, we had a full-blown case of chicken pox!

The sweet girl was a trooper through it all and it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. The doctor I saw on Saturday morning said that since she had the chicken pox vaccine in mid-September, it would probably be a "mild" case. I'm glad about that, because they never blistered or popped or scabbed over. Today, Wednesday, you can barely notice any signs of them. She was happy to get out of the house on walks a couple of times, or just to play in the yard. We're skipping Musikgarten tomorrow, just to be on the safe side, since she's the only child over one year who has received the vaccine.
The next piece of big news is that Charlotte's hair can now fit in pig tails!! Oh my goodness how cute is she?? She was unsure of them at first, but after getting some oohs and ahhs from Daddy and checking her cute self out in the mirror, she kept them in all day!

Finally, perhaps you remember me writing about the beginning stages of potty training
here. We've been taking it really slow, making sure she's comfortable, kind of a no-pressure approach. After all, she is only 14.5 months old. I even heard some moms at the park this morning saying how their 2- and 3-year olds were having difficulty with it, and how the moms didn't want to spend 6 months or even 6 days potty training, and that as long as the kid went to kindergarten without diapers, they'd be fine. Maybe my head is in the clouds - I really have no idea what I'm doing here - just kind of winging it. But, my friends, Charlotte went pee in her potty yesterday!!! This is not the actual event (although I did text Ben a picture of the real deal), but I love how comfortable and confident she looks in this photo!! We're so proud of her!!

How did you start the process of potty training? My baby is also 14.5 months and I would love to start if she is ready. Also, is it common for children to still get chicken pox even after receiving the vaccine?
I started potty training just by putting the potty out where she could see it & explore. Then I moved it into the bathroom & I bring her in there & sit her on it several times a day. I make a little "psssss" noise (I read to do that somewhere...). Twice she's gone to the potty to poop, but I didn't get her undressed soon enough for her to go in the potty. She's only peed in it once still. I'm going with a no-stress, light approach.
As far as I understand, it's not common for kids to get chicken pox after the vaccine, but it's not uncommon, either. The doctor that saw Charlotte to confirm it was not surprised at all to see that she had them. Her case turned out to be mild - the spots never seemed to itch her, they didn't pop open or scab, and were gone in about 5 days.
Thanks for your tips. My husband and I have decided to bring out the potty this weekend. Hopefully our baby will be receptive and interested in what it is. So far she has expressed NO interest what so ever in even just the bathroom itself. Maybe because she's not allowed to play in there or anything so she just doesn't even try to explore it. It's good I guess since there are a lot of germs in the bathroom...
