Yesterday, we got her all bundled up & she went out with Ben to build a snowman. Natalie & I sat on the porch and watched for a few minutes.
The snow wasn't the best for packing, but after some effort, their snowman was finished! Charlotte even used some of her favorite rocks to complete him - along with a pinecone nose.
Sadly, around dinner time, we noticed that something tragic had happened to the snowman. Based on footprints nearby & knowing our house is on a well-worn route to an elementary school, we think some mischievous kids knocked him down. Charlotte wanted us all to go out in the dark to fix him, but Ben & I suggested maybe he'd magically be fixed overnight.
After bedtime, I went out & put old Frosty back together.
Fast forward to about 5:45 this morning. Charlotte woke up crying, and when I went into her room to see what was wrong, she said she couldn't find her Blue Bear. After I dug him out from her blankets, she asked me to cuddle with her for a few minutes & sing "Silent Night" to her like Daddy does. After sleepily going through the song twice, Charlotte spoke to me in her sweet voice.
"Mommy?"
"Yeah Charlotte?"
"Do you think magic fixed my snowman?"
After realizing she would probably be able to see him from her bedroom window, I let her get out to see for herself. She scooted out of bed to the window & immediately her eyes lit up.
"He's fixed!!!!" she gasped. She happily climbed back into bed, snuggled up with her Blue Bear & Dolly, I gave her a kiss & tucked her back in & went back to bed.
Just one more week until Christmas & I was lucky enough to witness the magic through the eyes of my precious 2-year-old. On Saturday, we'll pick up Aunt Bobbi Jo from the airport & she'll get to reconnect with Charlotte & be a part of the magic, too. She'll become a real person to Natalie, instead of just a talking head in my laptop on Skype. :-) Family, goodies, presents, church, Santa... I'm so incredibly fortunate to see the magic through the eyes of my children.
