I took the front rail off of Natalie's crib last night. Charlotte started climbing out of the crib when she was just 18 months old, so I was lucky that Natalie made it 7 months further than that. And really, she hasn't been having any troubles in her crib, but it just seems like it's time for the transition.
While Nat may be able to climb into and out of bed on her own now, experiencing a bit more freedom in her room, this crib that my girls both slept in will continue to hold tight so many special memories for me.
Natalie's first nap in the crib - on her flat cat mat
Having an animal party with Charlotte
Nomming on the rails
"I stuck, Mimi!"
Snuggling with Minnie and a hospital blankie
I told Charlotte what I was going to do and she helped me collect all of the bolts as I took them off, then I had her play with Natalie in the other room for a few minutes while I took off the rail and changed the sheets. When I called to Charlotte that I was ready for her to bring Natalie back into the room, it took a few minutes - - Nat was too busy playing chase and kept running away from Charlotte! But of course, Charlotte had a backup plan for how to get her into the room...
She went right to bed last night - didn't even want to be rocked or listen to me sing. Just "bed, Mimi!" She fell out once around 10:30, but went right back to sleep. I rolled a beach towel and tucked it under the sheet and she slept fine the rest of the night. A little piece of me is sad that my baby is growing up, but she did enjoy her "big girl bed" last night!
